Moonshine
Music and lyrics by Elisa Korenne

Barkeep, I see a bottle there
I haven’t seen in many a year
Studers moonshine, better than beer
The best brew in the land, they’d cheer
The best brew in the land
1920, Prohibition decreed
No drinking was the law to heed
But my crop failed, I was in need
Had a wife and ten kids to feed, indeed,
A wife and ten kids to feed

Moonshine, moonshine
The brew was mine, I made the best in the land
Moonshine, moonshine
Illegal lifeline, Gave my family a hand

It was simple to make a still in a chop,
Get a wash boiler with a copper top
Stick a tube on it in the shop
And weld the top to the pot, that’s all
You weld the top to the pot
Rye corn and yeast, raisins and prunes
Apricots and sugar
Put it all in a clean oak barrel
Once used for vinegar, it was
Once used for vinegar

Moonshine, moonshine
The brew was mine, I made the best in the land
Moonshine, moonshine
Illegal lifeline, Gave my family a hand

The lawmen would head our way
Sheriff Dan would call to betray
That the feds were coming and planning a raid
So we’d move the still far away, we would
We’d hide the still far away
The piano was our whiskey cache
The feds once came to find our stash
To the piano young Jenny did dash
She played till the feds left abashed, at twelve
She played till the feds left abashed

Moonshine, moonshine
The brew was mine, I made the best in the land
Moonshine, moonshine
Illegal lifeline, Gave my family a hand

I don’t really miss the danger and risk
I don’t really miss making brew
But seeing that old Studers bottle there
I can’t help remembering the smell in the air
The sour stench of Prohibition time
As the mash fermented for our brew so fine,
As I mixed world-class moonshine
As I made Studers moonshine
Studers moonshine

Moonshine, moonshine
The brew was mine, I made the best in the land
Moonshine, moonshine
Illegal lifeline, Gave my family a hand
